Buy Twist Pile Carpet

Family garden with artificial grass, a play teepee and a fire pit seating area

Twist pile is the hard-wearing one. The fibres are twisted tight so they stand up rather than flatten, which is why it is the pile to choose for a hall, a landing, a staircase or any room the whole household walks through.

It also hides footmarks and vacuum lines better than a cut pile, so it looks tidier between cleans. If you want something softer for a bedroom, look at Saxony instead — our guide to twist and Saxony sets the two side by side.

Frequently asked questions

What is a twist pile carpet?

The fibres are twisted tightly so they stand up to being walked on and spring back. It is the most hard-wearing carpet we sell and the one to pick for a hall, stairs, a landing or a busy family room.

Does twist pile feel hard?

It is firmer than a saxony but not hard, and a good underlay adds most of the comfort. For a bedroom where softness matters more than wear, saxony is the better choice.

What backing does twist pile come with?

Action backed as standard, which lies flat, is easy to fit and suits underlay. Some ranges are also made felt backed for a softer feel without underlay.
